“Govida aala re aala zara
Mataki sambhal brijbaala”
Lord Krishna is considered as the God of compassion, tenderness, and love in Hinduism. Janmastami marks the day, Krishna was born at midnight on the ‘eighth day’ or the ‘Ashtami’ of the holy month, Shravana, according to the Hindu Lunar calendar . On this pious occasion, devotees go to temples and offer their prayers and “bhog”to their beloved deity. There is also a common practice followed in most Indian household, of bathing ‘Nand Gopal’ (baby Krishna) with milk, honey and water, and dress him up in new clothes. Devotees also observe fast on this particular day.
Yashoda, the foster mother of Krishna and the wife of Nanda was deeply attached to Krishna and gave a royal life to Krishna. He was so cute and effulgent and looked far different from any regular child. Krishna being fond of butter ,mischievously stole it from homes but was never caught. Therefore he is called as” Makhan chor”. Krishna was very famous among gopis. Gopis used to adore him for his charming personality.
“Mach gaya shor saari nagri re, saari nagri re
